Hardy Wins 800-meters at WAC Outdoor Championships

Houston, Texas - Junior Melanie Hardy won her third meet of the year in the 800-meters, this time at the 2004 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. Her time of 2:05.65 breaks her own school record by over three seconds. Hardy was TU's only champion.
In the team standings, the Golden Hurricane finished seventh on both the men's and women's side. The men amassed 47 points, while the women finished with 63 points.
Senior Shana Robinson finished second in the 100-meters and the 200-meter with times of 11.66 and 23.83, respectively. She also teamed with sophomore Shameka Holloway and freshmen Krystol Lartey and Chantelle Willard to finish third in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.62.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of senior Chatney Noble, junior Paula Richardson, freshman Chantelle Willard and Hardy finished second with a time of 3:43.06.
Freshman two-sport athlete Charles Ramsdell led the Hurricane men with a second place finish in the high jump. The 6-11 Kingfisher, Okla., native broke the school record for the event with a jump of 2.13m (6-11.75). Ramsdell, who is also a member of the basketball team at TU, broke the previous record by three-fourths of an inch. Former Golden Hurricane Jason Krueger owned the previous high mark with a 6-11 leap in 2001.
