Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa football team concluded the week of practice with an early morning session on the turf of Skelly Stadium on Friday at 6:0o a.m. The Hurricane will get the weekend off before returning to the practice field Monday and continue preparations for Kansas. "This week's been really good. It's been good because we had the week of school to kind of get acclimated to that routine. Going to school, coming to practice, going to study hall at night, so I like the fact that now we've got an extra week to get ready to play the game, whereas last year, we started school on Monday and had to get ready to go play a game at Minnesota on Friday. So I think our guys are going to be in more of a routine. We kind of worked the kinks out in terms of class schedules and all those things that are going to present themselves that first week of school," said Head Coach Steve Kragthorpe. "I like where we are now. We are not ready to play yet by any stretch of the imagination, but we will be ready next Saturday," added Kragthorpe. "We're pretty close. I think we're real close. But the difference between being in a position to win and not win is a very, very fine line and we've got to make sure we get across that line next Monday through Thursday in terms of our practice routine. A lot of the things are in. Now it's just a chance to sharpen them and hone our skills, hone our techniques and fundamentals and really lock down on the game plan." Tulsa has already begun its preparations for the Kansas Jayhawks, the opening opponent in Lawrence, Kansas, on September 4. "We've had a good week of working and preparing for Kansas. We need an extra week. They do a lot of things on offense and defense and special teams," said Kragthorpe. "They are going to be a great challenge for us. They are not only going to be a talented football team, but they are an extremely well-coached football team, too, so I'm glad we've got an extra week to continue to look at them." Kragthorpe also confirmed that freshman Billy Greenidge and freshman walk-on Zach Emel have left the team.
