Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa opens the 2004 football season on Saturday against the Kansas Jayhawks of the Big 12 Conference in Lawrence, Kansas. The game will kick off at 6:00 pm. Tulsa is coming off of an 8-5 season, while the Jayhawks went 6-7 in the 2003 campaign. Both teams also played in bowl games a year ago, as Tulsa played in the Humanitarian Bowl and Kansas participated in the Tangerine Bowl. Both teams return eight starters to their offensive and defensive units. "We're excited about the 2004 season, and most particularly the chance to go to Lawrence this weekend and compete against a very, very good Kansas team. A team that I think will be a force to reckon with in the Big 12 North this year," said Tulsa's Steve Kragthorpe. "Coach Mangino has done a tremendous job at KU in resurrecting that program, taking them to a bowl game in just his second year." The game will be played at Memorial Stadium (50,071). The contest can be heard on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Radio Network, locally on Newstalk 740 KRMG, or on the internet at www.tulsahurricane.com. The game can also be seen in Tulsa on a pay-per-view basis by ordering through Cox Communications at 665-0200.
