Hurricane Women Finish Fifth at Southern Stampede

Joplin, Mo. - The University of Tulsa women's cross country team posted a fifth-place finish at the Southern Stampede, hosted by Missouri Southern on Saturday. Oklahoma, Arkansas and Southwest Missouri State finished 1-2-3 on the women's side, while TU and Truman came down to the final runner, with the Bulldogs edging out the Hurricane 167-180.

Senior Natalie Rasmussen led the Hurricane's charge with a seventh place finish. She ran the 5,000-meter course in a time of 17:36.12. Freshman Breanna Chipney edged sophomore Renine LeHeron by four seconds. Chipney finished 33rd with a time of 18:46.95, while LeHeron finished 34th with a time of 18:50.65. Over 200 runners competed in the event with 24-teams competing on the women's side.

The Hurricane men finished 14th overall out of the 22-team field with 240 runners competing. Freshman Brett Turowski led the Hurricane with a 35th place finish in a time of 26:20.85. Redshirt freshman Jason Schweitzer was the next TU runner to cross the line, with a time of 26:48.28 in 51st place. Fellow freshman Joel Stansloski rounded out TU's top-three runners with a 67th place finish in a time of 27:11.56. Five of TU's six runners were freshmen.

Tulsa will take a week off before hitting the course again, at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., on Oct. 2nd.
