SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Marquin Chandler had 20 points and 14 rebounds to help San Jose State to just its second win ever over Tulsa, 76-69 on Thursday night.
Michael McFadden scored 19 points and Donta Watson had 12 for the Spartans (5-12, 2-6 Western Athletic Conference), who snapped a three game losing streak. San Jose State had lost 10 of its last 11 overall.
Jarius Glenn scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half for Tulsa (4-13, 1-7), which has lost three of its last four.
The victory was the Spartans' first over Tulsa since Jan. 30, 2003, improving their record in the rivalry to 2-17 - and the schools played an exciting game despite their spots at the bottom of the WAC.
The Spartans took their first lead early in the second half, and held Tulsa scoreless for nearly four minutes down the stretch. Alex Elam's 3-pointer with 1:50 left gave San Jose State a 69-61 lead.
Glenn hit a jumper to reduce Tulsa's deficit just three points with 10 seconds remaining. McFadden made two more free throws and then stole the ball, making a layup at the buzzer for the win.
San Jose State trailed by 14 points in the first half before making a 15-2 run including eight points by McFadden, including a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer.
