TU Men's Tennis Loses to #32 Rice, 5-2

Tulsa, Okla. - The No.47-ranked University of Tulsa men's tennis team lost its second match of the season to No. 32 Rice Saturday, 5-2, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Golden Hurricane is 9-2 on the season.

In doubles competition, Rice won the doubles point as they swept the three matches. TU's No. 41-ranked Achim Roth and Aleksander Charpantidis fell to Robert Searle and Ben Harknett, 8-6.

In singles competition, Federico Soriano got the first win for the Golden Hurricane, as he beat Ben Harknett, 6-3, 6-3, to tie the match at one. Brother Ricardo Soriano followed suit, winning 6-1, 6-4 over Jason Mok, giving the Hurricane a 2-1 advantage. Aleksander Charpantidis lost to Tony Haerle, 6-3, 6-4, to tie the match back two.

Rice then took charge of the match. Ralph Knupfer knocked off Will Gray, 7-5, 6-1. After leading 4-0 in the second set, Lucques Maasdorp lost to Hoony Shin, 6-2, 6-4. Rice's #11-ranked player Robert Searle went three sets with Achim Roth, to win, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.

Tulsa hosts #28-ranked Texas at 12 noon, Sunday, February 13.
