Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa football team began preparations for the 2005 season as spring drills began on Monday at Skelly Stadium. The Golden Hurricane practiced for 100 minutes under intermittent rain showers.
"It was a good first day. I thought our tempo was good, and guys were bouncing around and having fun. We need another good day like that on Wednesday, and then put the pads on Friday where we are after three spring practices," said Head Coach Steve Kragthorpe.
Although Tulsa has some positions to fill due to graduation, perhaps the most anticipated battle comes at quarterback where sophomore Paul Smith and red-shirt freshman David Johnson will get the snaps this spring.
"We have two very talented guys in Paul and David. I look forward to watching them compete. It's a position that will not be solidified, and very few of our positions will be solidified in spring practice. It's going to be a long, drawn out battle and we're going to give each guy a legitimate opportunity to win the job. We'll see how it falls," added Kragthorpe.
Tulsa will be back on the practice field on Wednesday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
