Tulsa Turns In Top Performances at Tulsa Track Meet

Tulsa, Okla. - Tulsa picked up six first-place performances at the Tulsa Track Duels on Saturday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. Tulsa captured first-place performances in two field events, three sprint events and one relay.
Tulsa opened the day's events with a first-place performance by freshman Thomas Stoltz in the javelin. Stoltz turned in an NCAA Regional qualifying mark with a throw of 211-04. The throw was the second-best outdoor mark in school history, and the best throw in 44 years for the Hurricane since George Wallace's 213-0 mark in 1961. On the women's side, freshman Katy McGillen had a second-place throw of 141-01 in the javelin.
While Stoltz claimed Tulsa's only men's field event title, sophomore Margaret Glover captured Tulsa's lone title in women's field events with a jump of 18-06.00 in the long jump.
In sprint events, Tulsa turned in three first place finishes including two for the women and one for the men. Senior Paula Richardson captured first-place in two events for the Hurricane, capturing the gold medal in both the 200 and 400-meter runs. In the 400 meters, Richardson clocked a time of 56.58 while collecting her second first-place performance with a 24.58 time in the 200 meters. On the men's side, freshman Mathew Musengezi, running in only his second race as a member of the Golden Hurricane, established a meet record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.
Freshman Erin Fogarty placed second in a time of 1:04.63 in the 400-meter hurdles, while senior Natalie Rasmussen also placed second for the Hurricane in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:04.09. Rasmussen was nipped at the finish line, finishing .04 seconds behind Kansas' Paige Higgins. For the 800-meters, Shantel Girtley and Melanie Hardy finished in third and fourth place, respectively. Girtley had a time of 2:14.76, while Hardy clocked in at 2:15.71
Sophomore Chantelle Willard posted a fourth-place time of 12.33 in the 100- meter dash, followed by senior teammate Mary Carr's 12:37 time for fifth place. Senior Melanie Hardy had a fifth-place finish in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:44.45.
On the men's side, sophomore Cory Ray finished in second-place in two events, including both the 100 and 200 meters. In the 100-meter dash, Ray clocked a second-place time of 10.71, while senior Jed Falkowski finished in fifth place with a time of 10.92. Ray finished the 200-meter race in a time of 22.05 for second place.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Tulsa took three of the first five places as senior Jamal Bogle finished in second place in a time of 14.61. Fellow senior DeVonne Harrison placed third in a time of 14.76 and sophomore Rickey Wilson finished in fifth place with a time of 15.55. Bogle also took second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.63.
Junior Clif Mitchell turned in a fifth-place performance in the 400-meter run.
In relay competition, the Tulsa men's and women's 4x100 meter teams placed second in their respective races. The men clocked a time of 41.84, and the women finished in a time of 47.84.
Tulsa closed out the day's competition with a first-place performance in the men's 4x400-meter relay. The winning team consisted of Tony Kay, Clif Mitchell, Jerrod Landress and Josh Childs. Landress closed in on Kansas' lead, while Childs took the lead nearly 100 meters remaining. The women's 4x400 relay team clocked a second-place time of 4:00.01.
Tulsa's next meet will be at the Missouri Relays, April 2, in Columbia, Missouri. The next time that the Hurricane will be competing at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium will be when Tulsa hosts the Western Athletic Conference Championships, May 11-14.
