Tulsa Conducts Second Major Scrimmage of the Spring

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa football team had its second major scrimmage of the spring season on Saturday afternoon as the Hurricane conducted an 83-play situational scrimmage on the turf of Skelly Stadium.
The scrimmage consisted of six possessions starting from the offense's 35-yard line and three from the 50-yard line, four from the 20-yard line and two possessions each from the 10 and 4-yard lines.
The offense scored six touchdowns in the game, with four coming on the ground and two passing TDs. Senior kicker Brad DeVault connected on 5-of-6 field goals, including a long of 53 yards. Defensively, Tulsa had one interception by Andrew Armstrong and a fumble recovery by Chadd Evans.
Sophomore quarterback Paul Smith connected of 9-of-13 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns, while Garrett Mills led all receivers with four receptions for 107 yards and two TDs. Courtney Tennial led the rushing attack with 79 yards and four TDs on 13 carries, while junior Brandon Diles also rushed 13 times for 63 yards.
On the six possessions from the offense's 35-yard line, the offense scored three field goals and one TD. From the 50-yard line, the offense scored only three points on a 20-yard Jarod Tracy field goal. The offense scored touchdowns on three of the four series starting from the 20-yard line, while scoring a touchdown and field goal from both the 10-yard line and four-yard line twice each.
The Hurricane defense forced the offense to kick field goals on three of the first four series, stopping the offense at the 8, 22 and 36-yard lines. DeVault connected on his first three attempts, covering 26, 39 and 53 yards.
The offense scored its first touchdown on the sixth series of the game. Smith connected on his first five passes of the game, then after his first incompletion, he responded with a 67-yard touchdown toss to senior tight end Garrett Mills.
After Tracy's 20-yard field goal, the offense scored on seven of its last nine possessions, all beginning from inside the 20-yard line. Tennial had touchdown runs of 2, 26, 15 and 2 yards, while Smith threw his second touchdown of the game to Mills. This time covering 20 yards. DeVault also connected on his final two field goals -- 28 and 23 yards -- during this time.
The annual Spring game is scheduled for next Friday, April 15, with a 7:00 pm kickoff. The TU Football Spring Cruisin' Festival, held in connection with the Spring Game will begin at 5 pm with a classic and collector car showcase.
