Hardy Advances to Finals at Midwest Regionals

Norman, Okla. - In her bid to repeat as the Midwest Regional Champion in the 800-meters, Tulsa senior Melanie Hardy ran the sixth fastest time of the preliminaries to advances to the finals, held Saturday, May 28, at the John Jacobs Track on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.
Hardy's time of 2:07.89 qualified her for the finals, two tenths of a second slower then the leading time. The top eight times in the distance advances to the finals. The top four placers at the Regionals advance to the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Hardy's teammates had a difficult day in Norman. Sophomore Mathew Musengezi, looking to make it two-for-two for TU in the 800-meter finals, finished with fifteenth-best time of the three heats, with a 1:53.10, not advancing to the finals.
Tulsa had two participants in the men's 110-meter hurdles, senior DeVonne Harrison recorded the 13th-best time with a 14.37, and sophomore Rickey Wilson posted a 14.66 for 17th overall.
In the men's javelin, WAC Championship runner-up Thomas Stoltz did not make it out of his flight, as he threw for 181 feet.
Hardy and women's javelin thrower Katy McGillen will be in action beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
