Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa men's and women's track teams will begin the 2006 indoor campaign at the Missouri Invitational in Columbia, Missouri, on Friday, January 13th at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse. Field events will begin at 3:00 p.m. and running events will begin at 4:00 p.m. Teams scheduled to participate are host Missouri, Drake, Oral Roberts, Tulsa, UMKC and Wichita State.
Junior Rickey Wilson, Jr., will look to improve his time of 8.35 in the 60-meter hurdles, set at the 2004 Western Athletic Conference Championships. This is a personal record, as well as Tulsa's fifth-best time in school history.
On the women's side, junior Margaret Glover will compete in the women's long jump. She set a personal-record and school-best jump at the 2005 JD Martin Invitational with a jump of 18-07.25 feet (5.67 meters) and then matched it at the WAC Championships last year.
Sophomore Sophia Rodriguez looks to improve as well, as she owns a personal-record and school best jump, a 39-7.25 feet triple jump, set at the 2005 WAC Championships.
The Golden Hurricane will also look for strong performances from the freshmen and sophomores on both the men's and women's teams, as they comprise 23 of TU's 34 participants in the invitational.
Steve Gulley is in his sixth season as head track and field coach. He turned the Golden Hurricane into one of the best squads in the Western Athletic Conference and looks to set new milestones in Conference USA. During Gulley's tenure, the Hurricane has qualified nine athletes and one relay team for the NCAA Championship.
