Golden Hurricane Men's Soccer Team Tops ORU, 4-2

The University of Tulsa men's soccer team topped cross-town rival Oral Roberts, 4-2, on Tuesday night at the ORU Soccer Complex in front of a crowd of 837 people. Freshmen Hunter Christiansen and Jose Parada, and juniors Eric Burkholder and Todd Goddard scored one goal apiece to give TU to a 6-8 mark on the season, including a 3-2 mark in Conference USA. The Golden Eagles fell to 4-7-3."We created a lot of chances tonight," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We had good movement and good combination play in general."
Jesse Roque knocked in two goals in the first 20 minutes of the game to give ORU an early 2-0 lead, but TU netted three unanswered goals to end the first period with a 3-2 advantage.
Christiansen punched in a goal off a pass from sophomore Joe Salem in the 28th minute for the Golden Hurricane's first goal of the night. At the 35 minute mark, Parada registered a goal off a penalty kick that was misplayed by ORU goalie Carlos Veron, and then six minutes later Burkholder picked up the ball at midfield, dribbled past a couple of defenders and drilled the ball into the net from 18 yards out.
"Hunter had a nice goal," McIntosh said. "We strung together five passes, got the ball to Hunter and he scored a great goal. He really got the ball rolling for us tonight."
Goddard captured the lone goal of the second period after he took a pass from sophomore midfielder Eric DeFreitas at the top of the box.
Sophomore Tyrel Lacey captured four saves on the night for TU, for 19 saves this season. The Golden Hurricane finished the match with an 18-16 advantage in shots, including a 7-to-6 ratio in shots on goal.
TU will travel to Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday, October 21st to take on UAB. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
