Tulsa Grabs 91-70 Win Over Cal State Northridge

Tulsa, Okla. - Rod Earls scored a career-high 26 points as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane defeated the Cal State Northridge Matadors by a score of 91-70 in front of 5,146 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Saturday night.
Tulsa freshman Ben Uzoh added 19 points, followed by senior Charles Ramsdell with 15 points, while each tied for the game-high in rebounding with seven boards apiece. Freshman Jamel McLean added 12 points and junior Sam Mitchell had 11.
The Hurricane out-scored the Matadors by 15 points in the second-half and scored over 90 points for the first time since November 12, 2004 with 97 points against Prairie View A&M.
The Hurricane opened the second-half with two baskets, a jumper and layup off a steal, both coming by Earls to take its first double-digit lead of the game. Northridge cut the lead to four points, 57-53, at the 15:34 mark. At the 5:04 mark, Tulsa went ahead by 11 points at 71-60, and kept its lead in double digits, making it a 21-point lead at 89-68 on a McLean free throw.
Tulsa had a six-point halftime lead, 46-40, while shooting 60-percent from the field and 44-percent from three-point range. Uzoh led the first-half scoring for the Hurricane with 12 points, followed by Ramsdell's 10 points.
In the first half, Tulsa took the lead at 9-7 on a three-pointer by Ramsdell at the 16:23 mark, but a layup by CSUN's Calvin Chitwood tied the score at nine. Three free throws by Earls gave the Hurricane a lead at 12-9 that it would not surrender in the first half.
Tulsa led by as many as nine points, 35-26, but Northridge cut that lead to one point at 35-34 with 4:37 remaining before intermission. The Hurricane built it back to eight points on another Ramsdell three-pointer at the 1:36 mark.
Tulsa hosts cross-town foe Oral Roberts on Tuesday night at the Reynolds Center at 7:05 pm.
