Golden Hurricane Splits with Shockers in Softball Action

Tulsa, Okla. - Senior Kelly Miller hit her first home run of the season, with two outs in the sixth inning, helping lead The University of Tulsa softball team past Wichita State, 4-3, in the second game of a doubleheader at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex. A crowd of 263 watched as the Shockers won the first game, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon.

Tulsa won the season series against WSU, as TU also defeated the Shockers, 4-0, in the second game of the season, as part of the Getterman Classic in Waco, Texas. Wichita State still owns the advantage in the overall series, 14-13.

The Hurricane was led by junior Kelli McGlasson who posted three hits on the day, including a two-run homer in the first contest that gave TU an early 2-0 lead. Freshman hurler Katie Lee was saddled with the loss in game one, striking out a pair of Shockers while falling to 5-3 on the year. Senior Maren Genow also struck out a pair of WSU hitters in the second game, however took home a win to improve to 13-6 on the year.

Tulsa, 27-14 overall, will have the weekend off from Conference USA play. The Hurricane will play at Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 19th for their next contest. Wichita State, now 28-15 on the year, returns home for a three-game set with Creighton beginning Friday, April 14th.
