Norman, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma broke open a scoreless game with a trio of runs in the third inning, then held on for a 3-0 victory over Tulsa, before a crowd of 719 at the OU Softball Complex on Wednesday night. The win completed the first sweep of TU for the Sooners in three years.
Junior Norrelle Dickson led off the third inning with a single to shortstop. Fellow junior Amber Spaulding followed with another infield single, a bunt single to the pitcher. After a fly out junior Mariee Mena singled to center field to score Dickson from second. Spaulding also scored on the play when TU center fielder Julie Shafer mishandled the bounce.
Following a wild pitch Mena scored on a ground out by Savannah Long to make the score 3-0 in favor of OU.
Tulsa tried to mount rallies with lead off singles in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. However, the Hurricane were unable to scratch a run. Junior Kelly Miller led the TU hitters with a pair of hits.
Senior Maren Genow was tagged with the loss, making her record 13-7 on the year. Tulsa falls to 27-15 on the season, while OU improves to 28-17-1 overall.
The Golden Hurricane returns to Conference USA play on Saturday with a three-game series at Marshall.
