Irving, Texas - University of Tulsa senior offensive tackle Jeff Perrett (Taber, Alberta, Canada) has been named as a preliminary candidate for the 2006 Outland Trophy, which is presented by the Football Writers Association of America to the top interior lineman in college football each season.

Perrett is one of three players from Conference USA named to the list and the only player from an Oklahoma school. Houston tackle SirVincent Rogers and Southern Miss guard George Batiste represent C-USA on the 54-man list.

Perrett, Tulsa's right tackle, has played in 37 career games and has a current streak of 35 starting assignments. He was a third-team all-Conference USA selection a year ago. Last year, Perrett had a high-grade of 87-percent against East Carolina and a total of 69 knockdowns, including a season-best 12 knockdowns against Southern Miss.

In 2005, Perrett helped Tulsa's offense lead the league in scoring with a 33.1 average. Tulsa also ranked among the nation's top-40 in scoring (23rd), total offense (39th) and rushing offense (40th) as the Hurricane won the C-USA Championship and AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

The 2006 Outland Trophy announcement will be on Dec. 7 in Orlando, Fla., on the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The Outland Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee and First Data Corporation, is set for Jan. 11, 2007, in Omaha, Neb.

The Outland Trophy has been awarded annually by the FWAA since 1946. It is named after the late John Outland, a lineman at Pennsylvania at the turn of the century.

Additional Outland Trophy candidates may be added during the course of the season. Tackles, guards and centers are eligible for consideration.
