Tulsa. Okla. - For the second consecutive day the Tulsa football team took the practice field in 100+ degree temperatures. The Hurricane worked out for 130 minutes on the grass of Harwell field amidst 110-degree temperature and 25-percent humidity.
Kragthorpe was pleased with the focus that his team showed in dealing with another hot day.
"The guys really pushed through the heat today," said Head Coach Steve Kragthorpe. "We really emphasized the last six periods to play with great fundamentals and technique when you're tired. This is the dog days. It's tough. The best part about it is that we can't control it. There's nothing we can do to change the weather. We just have to focus, pay attention to detail and push through it."
The heat will only help as the Hurricane will play two early home games and two afternoon road contests this season.
"We have an atypical September schedule. Most times you'll play night games in September, but we have two day games. The month of September is going to be hot, and the way you prepare for it is that you train in it. You have to train in the situation and circumstances that you're going to perform in on game day," said Kragthorpe.
Kragthorpe has also been pleased with the performance of the newcomers after just two days. "The recognition of what were trying to get done is good, and they're adjusting to the tempo. It's so much faster to what they're used to in high school or junior college, but they're doing a good job of playing fast and starting to learn," said Kragthorpe.
Tulsa will be back on the practice field for one practice on Monday.
