Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa men's soccer team fell, 1-0, to 21st-ranked New Mexico on Sunday afternoon in the TLC Plumbing & Utility Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Golden Hurricane owns a 2-5 record this season, including three losses to top-30 teams.
Tulsa began the game offensively, posting two shots on goal in the first 14 minutes, however, UNM held strong. The Lobos' Stephen Brown scored the only goal of the day in the 30th minute, as he received a pass from inside of the box and sliced it into the left corner.
"We played better today," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "Overall we had a very disciplined team performance. We created good chances, but had a bad mistake and they capitalized on it."
Freshmen Hunter Christiansen, Kyle Corrie and Jose Parada, and sophomore Eric DeFreitas had one shot on goal a piece in the contest. Junior goalkeeper Dominic Cervi had two saves on the day for 17 this season. For their performances in the tournament, junior Eric Burkholder and freshman Thomas Story were named to the all-tournament team.
TU will return to the friendly confines of the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium on Saturday, September 23rd to host UCF in the first conference battle for the Golden Hurricane this season. UCF is also off to a 2-5 start this year.
