Women's Tennis Shines in Day One

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa women's tennis team swept the doubles competition and won seven of its nine singles matches, Thursday afternoon at Rainbow Wahine Invite at the University of Hawai`i Tennis Complex. Teams featured were Tulsa, Cal State Northridge, UC Irvine, Hawai`i Pacific and host Hawai`i.
The seven victories came from Alexandra Kichoutkin, Marta Marcinkowska, Rebecca Row, Agostina Santoro, Jenna Webster, Julie Westfall and Jie Zeng. Kichoutkin defeated Nina Jaworowski of Cal State Northridge (6-0, 6-1). Marcinkowska beat Sandra Kukla, also from Cal State Northridge (6-1, 6-2). Row defeated Hawai`i Pacific's Samantha Mathews, without dropping a set (6-0, 6-0). Santoro beat Jessica Broadfoot of UC Irivine (7-6, 6-3). Webster defeated Hawai`i Pacific's Elena Hudzikova (6-4, 6-4). Westfall and Zeng both defeated a Hawai`i player with the exact same score (6-1, 6-1), Brittany Beswick and Julia Sandborn.
In TU's only blemishes of the day, Thalia Diaz-Barriga fell to UC Irvine's Becky Bernhard (6-4, 6-4) and Carla Zabaleta lost to Canna Furuta of Cal State Northridge (6-4, 6-2).
In doubles action, Tulsa won all four of its matches. The pair of Westfall/Webster defeated Hawai`i's Julia Sandborn/Marie Tanaka (6-1). The duo of Kichoutkin/Zabaleta beat Tinka Mihova/Lauren Shin of Hawai`i Pacific (8-2). The team of Marcinkowska/Barriga defeated Jessica Broadfoot/Heidi Kaloi of UC Irvine (8-6) and lastly the pair of Zeng/Row beat Cal State Northridge's Sandra Kukla/Kristy Fournell (8-5).
