Eight Tulsa Players Named to All-Conference Teams

Irving, Texas - The University of Tulsa had a total of eight players earn 2007 all-conference football honors by the media as selected by the media, announced today by Conference USA. The Hurricane had seven players earn first- or second-team accolades, while two newcomers, earned all-freshman team merits. One freshman team selection also earned second-team all-league honors.
Tulsa was led by first-team all-C-USA selections - quarterback Paul Smith and linebackers Chris Chamberlain and Nelson Coleman. Tulsa's second-team selections included receivers Trae Johnson and Brennan Marion as well as defensive end Moton Hopkins and deep snapper John Warren.
Johnson and fellow freshman Charles Clay were named to the C-USA all-freshman team.
Smith has ranked among the nation's top passers for the entire season while leading the nation's top-ranked offense to a season average of 548.6 yards. He established school career and single-season records for passing, total offense and touchdown passes.
He has completed 61-percent of his passes for 4,327 yards, a 360.6-yard average and 39 touchdowns. This year, Smith has established C-USA single-season records for total offense (4,450), passing yards (4,327) TDs responsible for (51) and TD passes thrown (39).
Chamberlain is Tulsa's leading tackler and ranks second in Conference USA with 139 tackles, including seven stops for -25 yards and tallied three interceptions. He has had nine games with double-figure tackles. Coleman earned first-team media honors for the second straight year, while totaling 129 tackles, 7.5 stops for -36 yards, three pass breakups and one interception.
Marion and Johnson are one-two on the team in receiving yards and rank among the top-4 receivers in Conference USA. Marion has caught 32 passes for 1,148 yards and 11 touchdowns. With his whopping 35.9 yard average per reception, Marion is on pace to establish a new NCAA record for average yards per catch.
Johnson needs just 60 yards to also hit the 1,000 receiving mark. He has caught a team-leading 61 passes for 940 yards and 10 touchdowns in his true freshman season.
The Hurricane had one player named to the second-team all-defensive unit as Hopkins earned the honor. He has totaled 62 tackles and nine stops for -17 yards this year. Warren was the second-team deep snap selection as he has handled all snapping duties for the Hurricane on field goals, PATs and punts.
Johnson was joined on the all-freshman team by another true freshman Charles Clay. The fullback/H-back has caught 52 passes for 843 yards and has rushed for 255 yards and a 5.2 average while totaling six touchdowns.
