Tulsa's Graham Pleased with Opening Spring Workout

Senior Paul Smith and junior David Johnson were won of 76 players to take part in the opening day of Spring Drills on Tuesday.

Tulsa, Okla. - The Tulsa Golden Hurricane opened spring practice on Tuesday afternoon with a two-hour workout at Skelly Stadium in shorts and helmets. Tulsa practiced for the first time under the direction of first-year head coach Todd Graham as the Hurricane worked out amidst heavy clouds and wind gusts.

"We outstanding practice today, an incredible tempo," said Graham. "We want to have one heartbeat and a great passion for the game. Today the team and coaches made a great effort to get us on the right track. We still have a lot to prove, but this was a very productive first day."

Tulsa will be back on the practice field Thursday night, from 7:30-9:30 pm, for the second workout of the spring campaign.

SPRING NOTES: Tulsa walk-on basketball player Kyle Young will try his hand on the football field. A star football and basketball player at Turpin (Okla.) High School, Young is slotted to play tight end for the Hurricane . . . quarterback Paul Smith will enter his senior season ranked second on the school's career passing (5,871 yards) and total offense (6,418 yards) charts, as well as third on the career TD passes (36) list.
