Golden Hurricane Split in C-USA Softball Action

Greenville, N.C. - The University of Tulsa jumped back into Conference USA action with a split at East Carolina on Saturday. Tulsa won the first game 3-1, while the Pirates won the nightcap 3-0. A crowd of 353 witnessed the doubleheader at the ECU Softball Field.
East Carolina scored first in the opening contest, with a run in the second inning. The score remained 1-0 until junior Sara Dyer hit a homerun in the top of the seventh to tie the contest and send the game into extra innings. Freshman Lauren Lindsay hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth for a 3-1 lead. Senior Julie Fennell held on in the bottom of the inning to seal the victory, her sixth of the season, as ECU had two runners on base when the game ended.
Six different Hurricane hitters registered hits, with five of them going for extra bases. In addition to the two home runs, seniors Lindsay Galloway and Kelli McGlasson along with junior Lindsey Tower hit doubles. Sophomore Brooke Smart also reached via a single for the Hurricane.
In the nightcap, TU stranded six baserunners and gave up three unearned runs with two outs in the fifth inning in the loss. Freshman Jackie Lawrence scattered only three hits in the complete game loss for the Hurricane.
McGlasson led the TU hitters with a 2-for-3 performance, while Lindsay and Tower also posted hits for TU. Lindsay was able to extend her current hitting streak to four games, with Tower continuing a three-game streak.
The two teams will conclude their series with a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m. This is an hour earlier than originally scheduled due to expected rain in the North Carolina area.
