Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's played its first home match in over three weeks on Sunday morning, and used it to snap a three-match losing streak with a 6-1 dominating victory over No. 24 South Alabama.
TU, who had slipped to No. 32 in the nation, ran off to a 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles point. In the one position the No. 21 duo of Diego Camacho and Ross Cunningham coasted to an 8-2 win over Robert Hodel and Marek Sramek, while in the two spot Arnau Brugues and Federico Soriano clinched the point with an 8-3 defeat of Jack Baker and R. J. Nagel. Lucques Maasdorp and Andy Connelly completed the sweep with an 8-4 win over Dias Doskarayev and Craig Dunne.
In singles competition, the hurricane moved ahead 2-0 when Will Gray picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Dunne in the four position, but the Jaguars cut the score to 2-1 when No. 41 Marek Smarek grabbed a 6-0, 6-0 win over Federico Soriano.
That was as close as South Alabama would get, however, as Camacho made the score 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-1 over Nagel, and Tulsa clinched the match when No. 3 Brugues topped No. 48 Doskarayev 6-3, 6-4.
Cunningham stretched the TU lead to 5-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Hodel at the five hole, and Ricardo Soriano fashioned the final score of 6-1 after coming from behind to defeat Baker 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7.
TU's men's tennis team will be back in action on April 3 when it travels to Norman, Okla., to face Oklahoma.
