Memphis, Tenn. - The University of Tulsa continued its momentum of its record breaking performance on Wednesday night, on Friday by sweeping the Memphis Tigers, 13-4 and 9-1 at the UM Softball Complex. TU pounded out 15 hits in the first game and recorded 11 more in the nightcap to move to 22-20 overall, 6-7 in league play. Memphis falls to 23-14 on the year, 3-7 in league games.
The Hurricane posted four doubles in the opening contest in addition to a home run, as seven of the nine hitters recorded at least one hit. Freshman Vanessa Vice led the TU hit parade with a 4-for-4 performance, including two doubles. She also scored twice and had three RBI. Fellow freshman Jackie Lawerence and junior Sara Dyer also had three hits apiece for the Hurricane.
Senior Julie Fennell became TU's all-time strikeout queen, while picking up her eighth win of the season. She sits with 494 career strikeouts, just ahead of Maren Genow's mark of 492.
In the second game, two hits from five different hitters. In addition to McGlasson, Lawrence and Vice; freshman Lauren Lindsay and senior Angela Osbon had multiple hits in the game. Sophomore Katie Lee picked up the complete game win by striking out four Tiger batters.
The two teams will conclude their three-game series with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
