Texarkana, Arkansas - Tulsa continued its dominance at the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship and captured the school's 11th league crown with a 20-stroke victory on Tuesday afternoon at the par-72 Texarkana Country Club on Monday. All five Tulsa golfers placed among the top-10 individually. With the victory, Tulsa received C-USA's automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional Championship that takes place, May 17-19, in Chicago, Illinois.
The 15th-ranked Golden Hurricane recorded its third straight day of three-under par 285 to finish the 54-hole event with an 855 total. Tulsa outdistanced second-place UAB (875) by 20 strokes, while Southern Miss (878), SMU (884) and Houston (885) rounded out the top-five teams.
The league also announced its yearly awards, as four Hurricane seniors earned all-conference honors and Head Coach Bill Brogden was named the C-USA Coach of the Year. Mitch Cohlmia and Brett Myers earned first-team all-conference accolades while Sam Korbe and Ryan Henry were second team selections.
The only Hurricane golfer not named to the all-conference squad was sophomore Nicolas Geyger, who shot the best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a five-under par 67 to move up from 13th to second place with a three-under par 213 total. Myers used an even-par 72 for his three round total of 213 to tie with Geyger and Houston's Jordan Irwin for second place.
UAB's Garrett Osborn won individual medalist honors after shooting a two-under par 70 today for a four-under par 212. Osborn used an eagle and birdie putt on the back nine to offset a bogey on the final hole to hold on for the victory.
Geyger birdied holes 5, 7 and 9 to go three-under on the front nine, while turning in birdies on holes 12, 15 and 17 on the back nine. His lone bogey came on the par-5 16th hole.
Myers, who also finished one stroke behind the individual leader, was sitting at two-under par after 10 holes but bogeyed the par-4 14th and 18th holes. Henry, who led the tournament field after each of the first two rounds, shot a 78 today and finished in eighth-place with a 218 total.
Korbe and Cohlmia tied for 10th place with scores of 219, as Cohlmia had a one-under par 71 today while Korbe carded a score of 75.
The win gave Tulsa its third tournament victory this season, and was the seventh tournament that the Hurricane finished among the top-3 teams.
Tulsa is in action next at The Maxwell Tournament in Ardmore, Oklahoma, May 12-13.
