No. 24 Tulsa Finishes The Landfall Tradition in Second Place

Wilmington, N.C. - The University of Tulsa's 24th ranked men's golf team kept up the tradition of playing strong at The Landfall Tradition alive this weekend. In Sunday's final round the defending medalist TU Golden Hurricane shot their lowest round of the tournament a three-over par total of 291. Sunday's low round earned TU a second-place finish at the Landfall Tradition, finishing 12 strokes behind tournament champion Iowa.
Also keeping up the tradition of strong finishes in Wilmington was senior Nicolas Geyger. In two previous appearances at The Landfall Tradition Geyger finished tied for first and last season he won the tournament outright. This year he finished in fourth-place shooting rounds of 74-73-73, to find himself three strokes behind tournament champion Rafael Campos of Iowa.
Heading into the final round senior Rob Laird found himself tied for 10th place and looking for his second top-10 finish of the season. On his final 18 holes, Laird recorded four birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey on his way to a final round one-over par 73. His 73, put him at nine-over par for the tournament and one stroke out of the top 10 in a tie for 12th place.
Freshman Stephen Carney had the best finish of his collegiate career. The Tulsa native bounced back strong from an opening round 81, shooting rounds of 74 and 72 on the weekend. On Sunday, Carney had two birdies and two bogeys en route to an even par final round. His strong play on the weekend earned him a tie for 16th place.
Ryan Brooks continued his strong consistent play earning his third top-20 finish of the fall season. In Sunday's final round Brooks recorded three birdies in a five hole stretch on the front nine. On the day Brooks shot a one-over par round of 73. He finished the tournament tied for 19th place.
After an opening round 84, freshman Arie Fauzi improved greatly from round to round. In his final two rounds he took four strokes off his previous day's score. Saturday Fauzi shot an 80. On Sunday he fired his best round of the season a four-over par 76 on his way to a tie for 47th place.
The Golden Hurricane's second place finish was their best of the season. They wrap up the fall season November 3-4 at the Rees Jones Collegiate Invitational in Hilton Head South Carolina. Be sure to log on to www.tulsahurricane.com for daily recaps of the action.
