Walnut, Calif. - The University of Tulsa had four male track athletes run at Prestigious Mt. Sac Relays at the Hilmer Lodger Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio Community College in Walnut, Calif. The Mt. Sac Relays' slogan is "where the world's best athletes compete" and Tulsa's brought some its world-class athletes including two qualifiers to the IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
The four athletes were: seniors Edwin Henshaw and Joel Stansloski, junior John Beattie and sophomore Kyle Dekker. Beattie finished fourth in the 10,000m with a school record time of 29:30.88. He also narrowly missed the automatically qualifying time of 28:45.00 for the NCAA Championships.
Henshaw and Dekker ran in two different heats of 5,000m. Dekker finished fifth in his heat with a time of 14:13.96. His time was a personal record and the second-best time in TU history. Dekker's time was just off the 14:12.00 qualifying time for NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. Henshaw finished eighth in his heat with a time of 14:19.50. Henshaw is the current school record in 5,000m with a time of 14:04.53.
Stansloski placed 10th in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:31.64. Stanslsoki earlier this season ran a personal-best time of 9:22.93 at the Arlington Invitational in 3,000m steeplechase.
The rest of the Tulsa track and field team will participate this weekend at the John McDonnell Invitational on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, Ark.
