Eight Tulsa Track Athletes To Compete at NCAA Midwest Regional

Tulsa's Edwin Henshaw and seven others will compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional this weekend.

Tulsa, Okla. - Eight University of Tulsa Track and Field Athletes will continue their season at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Lincoln, Neb., this weekend. The two-day event is slated for Friday and Saturday, May 30-31, at the Ed Weir Stadium on the campus of the University Nebraska.

The members of the men's team competing at the regional are red-shirt freshman Mark Davidson running in the 1,500m, and senior Edwin Henshaw and junior John Beattie running in the 5,000m.

Davidson qualified for the regional by posting a time of 3:46.74 in the 1,500m at the John McDowell Invitational earlier this season. Davidson, the C-USA champion in the 1,500m, ranks No. 19 in the region. Henshaw posted a qualifying time of 14:06.97 at the Stanford Invitational in 5,000m. While, Beattie qualified with his second-place and altitude adjusted time of 14:07.40 at the Conference USA Championships in El Paso, Texas.

The women will send five athletes to Lincoln with the hope of advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships.

Freshman Jennifer Mace will represent the Golden Hurricane in the 400m after her qualifying performance at the Sooner Twilight of 53.93. Mace's time ranks her 13th at the region.

Sophomore Tayler Rigsby and freshman Ashley Aitken both qualified for the regional in the 800m at the John McDowell Invitational. Rigsby's qualifying time was 2:08.23, which ranks 14th, while Aitken's time of 2:08.83 ranks 19th in the region.

Junior April Montgomery qualified for her third-consecutive NCAA Midwest Regional with a time of 1:00.78 in the 400m hurdles at the Sooner Twilight. Her time ranks her 12th in the region.

Senior Katy McGillen, who also qualified for her third-straight regional, rounds out the Tulsa participants. McGillen is also TU's only field event participant, competing in the javelin. She qualified with a distance of 44.88m (147-03) at the Texas Relays.

Field events on Friday will begin at 1 p.m. with the women's hammer throw, while running events will kick off at 1:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100m relay prelims.
