El Paso, Texas - Tulsa players awoke to sunny skies in the ole Texas town of El Paso on Wednesday morning, another unusual mid-week game for the Hurricane. Temperatures will be in the high 70s at game time as Tulsa and UTEP square off in a key Conference USA Western Division game tonight at 6 pm local time (7 pm central time) in front of a national television audience on ESPN.
UTEP has already defeated the preseason pick to win the West Division with a 58-41 win over the 12th-ranked Houston Cougars right here at Sun Bowl Stadium. A raucous crowd of 50,000 is expected for tonight's clash.
The top four West Division teams square off this week, as 2-0 SMU travels to 1-1 Houston on Saturday. The two winners will have the advantage in the fight to represent the West in the C-USA Championship Game.
Tulsa enters tonight's contest having lost last week against #5-ranked Boise State in a non-league matchup, while UTEP's last game was a 35-20 loss at Memphis on Oct. 10. Tulsa leads the overall series 10-7, and has a 5-3 edge in games played in El Paso, but the Miners have won their last two games at home against the Hurricane, including a 48-47 shootout in 2007 that came down to the last seconds.
The official TU Football Watch Party for the game will be held at the Fair Meadows Sports Grill, located at 4609 East 21st Street, located behind Big Splash Water Park on the Tulsa Fairgrounds property.
