- Tulsa game captains were Damaris Johnson, G.J. Kinne, James Lockett, Charles Clay, Kenny D. Sims, Mike Bryan, Curt Puckett and Wilson Garrison. Johnson, Kinne and Bryan represented Tulsa at midfield.
- Tulane won the coin toss, and selected to receive. Senior Ade Manga had the first tackle of the season on the kick coverage unit.
- For the third consecutive year, Tulsa starts a different quarterback in the first game of the season. Paul Smith in 2007, David Johnson in 2008 and G.J. Kinne in 2008.
- Tanner Antle had the first sack of the season on the first series vs. Tulane for -2 yards on the first 3rd down situation of the game.
- James Lockett had his first quarterback sack of the season in the first quarter with a 12-yard sack on a 1st-and-10 for Tulane. Last year, Lockett led Tulsa in sacks with 8.5 sacks.
- On Tulane's first seven plays, Tulsa had three quarterback sacks. Un'tavious Scott had Tulsa's third sack of the game for -10 yards.
- Senior Slick Shelley's first reception of the season went for 45 yards in the second quarter.
- Jamad Williams went over the 1,000 career rushing plateau in the third quarter on his sixth carry of the game (6 carries for 23 yards). He entered the game needing 19 yards to reach the 1,000-yard mark.
- Damaris Johnson's 66-yard punt return was his first career punt return for a TD, and the second special teams TD for Johnson. Last year, he returned a kickoff 94 yards against UTEP.
- Damaris Johnson ended the game with 252 all-purpose yards on 12 attempts.
- It was also the first punt return for a TD since Slick Shelley's 25-yard return last year against Rice.
- True freshmen that played in today's game for Tulsa were C Trent Dupy, DE Daeshon Bufford, DB Dexter McCoil, WR Justin Skillens, QB Shavodrick Beaver and NG Gabe McGee.
