Tulsa, Oklahoma -
The University of Tulsa's 12th-ranked men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to top-ranked Akron on Sunday night in the final game of the Radisson Tulsa Airport Classic at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 1-1-1 on the season, while the Zips moved to 2-0 overall.
"Akron is a very good team," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "They possess the ball very well and have great movement, which caused us problems in the first half. In the second half, we created more chances, but we just couldn't get that tying goal. I think playing our third game in five days took its toll on us, but I am very proud of how our guys worked in the second half. They fought hard and it was a good game."
Anthony Ampaipitakwong scored the Zips' goal at the 10:00 minute mark off a cross from Teal Bunbury.
Senior forward Jose Parada led TU with two shots, while Ashley McInnes who returned to the lineup for the first time this season attempted one shot, as did Hunter Christiansen, Corey Albertson and Austin Neil. Andy Aguilar spent all 90 minutes between the posts and picked up four saves.
The Zips had an 11-6 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 lead in shots on goal.
TU will return to action on Friday and Sunday at the NIU Invitational, taking on Northern Illinois and Northwestern, respectively.
