GENERAL NOTES
• Southern Miss won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Tulsa received the opening kickoff and defended the north end zone.
• Tulsa wore its throwback red jerseys with gold pants and gold helmet with no logo and blue and red stripe.
TEAM NOTES
• At the 7:03 mark of the first quarter, G.J. Kinne ran for a one-yard touchdown. That capped a 23-second, two-play drive--Tulsa's shortest of the season. Kinne's 40-yard pass to Trae Johnson set up the scoring play.
• Tulsa scored 21 points in the first quarter. That's the most first quarter points this season and the most since Tulsa scored 28 points in the first quarter against UTEP two seasons ago (10/18/08).
• Tulsa and Southern Miss scored a combined 31 points in the first quarter. That's the most combined first quarter points this season and the most since Tulsa and UTEP combined for 56 points in the first quarter two seasons ago (10/18/08).
• Tulsa tallied 634 total yards--the most this season and the most since TU had 791 yards against UTEP two seasons ago (10/18/08).
• Tulsa has compiled 600 yards or more twice this season and 12 times under head coach Todd Graham.
• Tulsa scored more than 50 points (56) for the third time this season and for the 13th time under head coach Todd Graham.
• Tulsa and Southern Miss combined for 106 points--the most combined points in a Tulsa game since TU and UTEP combined for 112 points two seasons ago (10/18/08).
• Tulsa finished the season with a 6-0 record at Chapman Stadium. That marks the 18th time TU has gone undefeated at home and the 15th time TU has gone undefeated and untied at home. The last time Tulsa finished a season undefeated at Chapman Stadium was in 1989 (5-0). The last time TU went 6-0 at home was in 1978.
• Tulsa's record against Southern Miss improves to 4-3-1, which includes a 3-0-1 mark in Tulsa.
• Tulsa incurred no penalties during the game. That marks the first time TU has gone penalty-free in a game since the GMAC victory against Ball State (1/6/09).
PLAYER NOTES
• On the opening driving, Damaris Johnson caught an eight-yard pass from G.J. Kinne. Johnson has now caught at least one pass in 38 consecutive games--the sixth longest active streak among FBS players.
• At the 13:17 mark of the first quarter, sophomore Ricky Johnson caught a pass from G.J. Kinne for a 40-yard touchdown. It was his first receiving touchdown of the season and longest receiving touchdown of his career.
• With that 40-yard pass to Johnson, Kinne surpassed 3,000 passing yards for the season. He is the fourth TU quarterback to pass for 3,000 or more yards in a season. The others are Paul Smith (5,065/2007), David Johnson (4,059/2008) and Billy Guy Anderson (3,464/1965). Kinne ended the game with 3,307 yards for the season.
• Trae Johnson's 40-yard reception from Kinne was his longest of the season and his longest since a 44-yard reception during the 2008 season.
• On Tulsa's first drive of the second quarter, Jamad Williams had a 31-yard rushing play--his longest of the season.
• At the 1:15 mark of the second quarter, Kinne threw a 19-yard pass to Charles Clay. That moved him past John Fitzgerald (5,822/1994-98) for third on TU's all-time passing yards chart. He finished the game with 6,039 career yards. Kinne is the third TU quarterback to surpass the 6,000-yard career passing mark (Paul Smith, 2003-07 / T.J. Rubley, 1987-91).
• With 10 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Dexter McCoil intercepted a pass from Austin Davis. It was McCoil's sixth interception of the season and seventh of his career.
• At the 12:05 mark of the third quarter, Tanner Antle recovered a Southern Miss fumble. That was his fifth career fumble recovery--one shy of Tulsa's school record. George Gilbert (1978-81) recovered six fumbles over his career.
• At the 7:10 mark of the third quarter, Kinne completed a 67-yard touchdown to Willie Carter. With that pass, he surpassed Billy Guy Anderson (3,343/1,965) for third most yards of total offense in a season among TU quarterbacks. Kinne ended the game with 454 yards of total offense for the game and now has 3,532 for the season.
• Sophomore Willie Carter had a career-best 93 receiving yards on four catches. He also tallied his first game with multiple touchdowns (two receiving and one rushing).
• Trae Johnson caught four passes for 113 yards. It was his best performance since his freshman season when he caught nine passes for 119 yards against Army (11/17/07). This was Johnson's third career 100-yard receiving game.
• Damaris Johnson had 221 all-purpose yards. He now has 18 career 200-yard games, including five this season. Johnson has 7,470 career all-purpose yards. He is 103 yards shy of DeAngelo Williams (Memphis/2002-05) for first on the C-USA chart and third on the NCAA chart. Johnson is 118 yards shy of C.J. Spiller (Clemson/2002-05) for second on the NCAA chart.
• Johnson has 2,302 all-purpose yards this season. He is the third FBS player to have three 2,000-yard seasons in a career (along with Williams and Antonio Brown/Central Michigan). He is the second FBS player to have three 2,000-yard seasons in his first three years (along with Brown).
• G.J. Kinne recorded his first career 400-yard passing game (406). He became the fourth TU player to hit the 400-yard mark, joining Billy Guy Anderson (1964-65) with four, David Johnson (2005-08) with three and Paul Smith (2003-07) with three.
• It was also G.J. Kinne's eighth time to pass 300 yards in a game. He only trails Paul Smith who has 14 career 300-yard passing games.
• Kinne was responsible for six touchdowns with four passing and two rushing. That's the most by a TU player since David Johnson's seven against North Texas (9/6/08). Kinne's mark ties Johnson for second most in TU history. Johnson was responsible for six touchdowns against New Mexico (9/20/08).
• Kinne threw four touchdown passes to give him 50 for his career. He moved past David Johnson (2005-08) for third most in TU history.
• Kinne completed 12-of-25 passes with two interceptions in the first half. He finished 11-for-12 in the second half, which included 10 consecutive completions.
