Tulsa's Damaris Johnson Earns C-USA Weekly Honor

Damaris Johnson won the C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week award for the sixth time in his career this week.

IRVING, Texas - For the second consecutive week, Tulsa's Damaris Johnson was selected as the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office today.

In Tulsa's 64-27 victory over Rice on Saturday, Johnson totaled 322 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns. He gained three punt return yards, 22 rushing yards, 134 kickoff return yards and 163 receiving yards.

The 5-foot, 8-inch Johnson became the Conference USA record-holder for career kickoff return yards with 3,054 yards and needs only 64 yards to become the NCAA's all-time kick-off return leader. Johnson also came into the game ranked 19th on the NCAA's career all-purpose yardage list and jumped all the way into 10th place with 6,824.

The junior from LaPlace, Louisiana, Johnson scored on 12 and 41-yard pass receptions and had his second career kickoff return with a 94-yard return in the third quarter to make the score 50-13.

On offense, Johnson had Tulsa's first 100+ receiving game this year with 163 yards and 2 TDs on eight receptions.

It's the second award this year for Johnson and the sixth C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week honor in his three-year career. He won the weekly award twice as a freshman in 2008 and two times last season. Johnson captured the award as a freshman in back-to-back weeks as well.
