Tulsa Golfers Finish Third at UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational

San Antonio, Texas - The University of Tulsa men's golf team opened the spring season with a third-place finish in a field of 15 teams, including four top-50 teams, at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational at the par-71 Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.

Eleventh-ranked Texas Tech repeated as the team champions with a 23-over par 875 total, followed by 49th-ranked Southeastern Louisiana two strokes back in second place. Tulsa and 41st-ranked Baylor tied for third place with 878 totals, while North Texas rounded out the top-five teams with an 880 total.

The Golden Hurricane carded its highest round of the tournament today with a 295, after posting 292 and 291 scores in the first and second rounds, respectively, to finish with a 26-over par 878.

TU was led by sophomore Stephen Carney, who after carding the best round for a Tulsa golfer today, finished tied for fourth place with a two-over par 215. Lone senior on the roster, Rob Laird, was 11th with a 219 three-round total, while freshman Chris Worrell was 25th with a 222. Sophomores Arie Fauzi and Andre' Tourinho were 38th and 63rd, respectively, with 225 and 233 scores.

Southeastern Louisiana's Philipp Westermann captured the individual title with a two-under par 211 total, while 9th-ranked Dustin Garza from Wichita State was one stroke back in second place and Louisiana Lafayette's Philipp Fendt was third with a one-over par 214.

Tulsa will return to action on Feb. 28-March 2 at the John Hayt Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida.
