Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa football team practiced for the first time in full pads on Thursday morning in temperatures that skyrocketed from 91 to 105-degrees by the end of the workout. The Hurricane conducted its first full scrimmage that went 103 total plays, including 90 scrimmage plays and 13 special teams plays.

"I thought the guys competed really well. The offense started out fast. We made it more like a game, so it wasn't just ones against twos. The ones went a series, and they would go again, and again, and again. They went four series in a row. The offense scored two out of those four series. They started off really, really well, moving the ball efficiently, running the ball, mixing it up with the pass. They executed on some big third downs," said Head Coach Todd Graham.

"The offense started out fast, but I thought the defense finished strong. It was kind of give-and-take, and that's what you want to have. We came out of the thing healthy, and feeling good about getting better fundamentally," added Graham.

The coaching staff was anxious to evaluate the film following the morning scrimmage.

"It's hard to make a good solid evaluation without evaluating the film," said co-Defensive Coordinator Keith Patterson. "There were lot of good things, and there were some alignment issues, things that you see in a first scrimmage. Everything we saw today defensively was correctable."

"We wanted to come out and get a great evaluation tape on these guys, and that meant keeping it simple and running our base offense, so the kids didn't have to think, instead having to react and play. I think they did that. I thought we did a great job coming out at the start. We were a little on fire early on offensively," said Offensive Coordinator Chad Morris.

"I think the key right now, is to feel like we have everybody in the right position. Getting ourselves better fundamentally, getting ourselves better every single day and every single week. We have some guys we need to develop. We have some youth. We have some guys that haven't played, and we need to try to get them experience. We're going to have to do a great job of teaching them and getting better at those positions where we are inexperienced," said Graham.

No statistics were kept for the scrimmage. Tulsa is scheduled to practice twice on Friday.
