Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa football team continues to work towards its opening game of the 2010 campaign. The Golden Hurricane went through Day 19 of the preseason in fairly warm conditions Thursday evening at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

The temperatures stayed in the low-90, high-80's range, and it was partly cloudy throughout practice.

Offensive line coach Spencer Leftwich said he was pleased with how his front five looked in practice and where they are at this point with one week left before the season opener.

"We're starting to come along and put the pieces together, and I think we're going to be ready to go," Leftwich said about the O-Line. "We started out a little slow today but ended up having a good day. We are seeing more and more enthusiasm as we get closer to that opening day."

Leftwich said he believes the biggest strength of the offense is the experience. He hopes the team will be able to establish a quality rushing attack early in games in order to open up the offense.

"Being able to run the ball is the set of any offense," Leftwich said. "If we can do that, than we should be successful."

Wide receivers coach Mike Norvell said he is pleased with how his group has progressed throughout the preseason.

"We have a great group of guys that are pushing each other every day," Norvell said. "They did a good job of flying around. Today was all about making sure we got all our assignments down so we can be ready for the first game."

Norvell seconded coach Leftwich in citing the experience as being the biggest asset for Tulsa heading into the season.

"We have guys that have been in close games and who have made big plays, and that is something that is going to carry us a long way," Norvell said. "We are going to be a physical football team and our guys have taken great pride in that."

Tulsa opens the 2010 season at defending Conference USA Champion East Carolina on Sunday, September 5th on ESPN 2. Tulsa will open the home season against Bowling Green on Sept. 11th. Season tickets are available at www.TulsaHurricane.com or by calling 918.631.GoTU (4688).
