Men's Track & Field Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

New Orleans - The University of Tulsa men's track & field team was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2010 Division I All-Academic Track & Field teams, it was announced Wednesday.

The Golden Hurricane posted a 3.35 team grade-point average, which was the fourth highest in the country.

Joining Tulsa as an All-Academic team was fellow Conference USA member Rice University. A total of 73 institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better.

TU had three C-USA All-Academic First Team members this past year. Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year John Beattie led the way for the Golden Hurricane. He was also named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team, and was on the All-District VI First Team.

Bill Martin and Carl Stones were also selected to the C-USA All-Academic First Team.

In total, Tulsa had six student-athletes named C-USA Academic Medalists and 18 student-athletes named C-USA All-Academic Honorees. Two members of the men's track & field squads were named to the President's List, nine student-athletes made the Dean's List, and 13 others were named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Yale posted the highest cumulative GPA at 3.42, followed by Lipscomb at 3.39.

Indiana University and Arizona State University were named as Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year.
