• East Carolina wins toss and elected to receive.
• Six Tulsa players started their first career games in the season opener -- TB Trey Watts, WR Thomas Roberson and OG Stetson Burnett on offense; MLB Cody Wilson, CB Lowell Rose and DE Tyrunn Walker.
• Tulsa had 11 freshmen play in the season opener, including six true freshmen, three red-shirt freshman and two gray-shirt freshmen.
• Tulsa fumbled on its second play of the game. It was the 12th turnover in the last three games against East Carolina. Tulsa had seven turnovers in the 2008 C-USA Championship game, and last year had four turnovers against the Pirates. Tulsa ended the game with two turnovers.
• Alex Singleton's one-yard TD run in the first quarter was his first career rushing touchdown, while
• Damaris Johnson has now caught a pass in 27 straight games, which is all the games of his career.
• Damaris Johnson had his second career rushing touchdown, his first since the 8th game of the 2008 season as a true freshman.
• Sophomore Dexter McCoil had his second career interception. His first career INT came last year against UTEP in the seventh game of the season.
• Oklahoma transfer Jameel Owens caught his first career pass at Tulsa with a 26-yard reception in the second quarter. He caught 4 passes for 44 yards in 2008 at Oklahoma. Owens also had his first career touchdown reception, coming in the third quarter.
• Damaris Johnson established the new career kick-off return record today. He entered the season with 2,513 kickoff return yards and needing 59 yards to tie Jason Jacoby's school record of 2,572 yards. His first return of the game went for 39 yards, and he set the new record with his third return of the game, going for 22 yards.
• G.J. Kinne had his fourth career 300+ yard passing game, and his third in the last five games dating back to last season. The 399 yards is a new career-high bettering his previous high of 396 yards.
• Tulsa has now scored 40+ points in 20 of 41 games in the Todd Graham era.
