Week of Jan. 18 - 24
Junior Ewa Szatkowska (Women's Tennis) has maintained a 3.01 grade-point average in exercise sport science. The Torun, Poland, native went 3-0 this past weekend to help Tulsa defeat both Mississippi State and Arkansas-Little Rock by 7-0 scores. Szatkowska posted a straight-set victory at No. 4 singles against Mississippi State, and she teamed up with fellow junior Anastasia Erofeeva to win both doubles matches by a combined score of 16-4.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (10-9, 3-2 C-USA)
Lost at Houston 64-57 (Junior forward Steven Idlet led Tulsa with 14 points and 12 rebounds in a tight loss to Houston. Senior guard Justin Hurtt scored 20 points in 37 minutes, and sophomore guard Bryson Pope added 13 points. TU shot 36 percent from the field and knocked down six trey's. Tulsa outrebounded the Cougars 41-34, but connected on just 55 percent from the free-throw line.)
Won at Tulane 65-61 (Tulsa picked up its first true road win of 2011 with the help of five players scoring in doubles figures. Pope led the team with 16 points, Hurtt and freshman guard Jordan Clarkson scored 11, and Idlet and sophomore guard Scottie Haralson added 10 each. Idlet grabbed nine rebounds, and Tulsa outrebounded the Green Wave 39-30 and shot 13 of 15 from the free-throw line.)
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (5-8, 1-4 C-USA)
Lost to Tulane 80-66 (Tulsa shot 61 percent from the field in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the conference-leading Green Wave was able to hold off the home Golden Hurricane. Freshman guard Taylor Hooker led TU in scoring with 14 points, junior forward Denise Lewis added 12 and freshman forward Amanda Mason contributed 11 and seven boards. Freshman forward Loren McDaniel added eight points and eight boards.)
MEN'S TENNIS (3-2, 1-0 C-USA) Ranked No. 35 in the nation
Defeated Memphis 6-1 (Tulsa easily took down Conference USA foe Memphis at Case Tennis Center. Memphis had only team ranking, as the doubles tandem of David O'Hare and Joe Salisbury were No. 52 in the nation. They were defeated 8-4 by Tulsa's sophomore duo of Grant Ive and Alastair Barnes. Barnes and Ive also posted singles wins, and so did sophomores Marcelo Arevalo and Clifford Marsland and freshman Japie de Klerk. De Klerk is now 5-0 in singles to start his young career.)
WOMEN'S TENNIS (4-0, 0-0 C-USA) Ranked No. 32 in the nation
Defeated Mississippi State 7-0 (Tulsa breezed past Mississippi State, winning all six singles matches (five in straight sets) and all three doubles matches. The singles winners were seniors Alexandra Kichoutkin and Jo-Anne Karaitiana, juniors Anastasia Erofeeva, Ewa Szatkowska and Bonny Davidson, and sophomore Michelle Farley. Kichoutkin was the only member of the Golden Hurricane to need a third set, but she took care of business 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 1-0 (10-2).)
Defeated Arkansas-Little Rock 7-0 (TU swept its fourth-straight opponent, and the Golden Hurricane again won five of six singles in straight sets. Kichoutkin, Erofeeva, Farley and Davidson won again, and junior Caroline Beaulieu and freshman Maria Sant'Anna got into the action with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.)
INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Competed at the J.D. Martin Invitational (The Golden Hurricane won five individual events, highlighted by sophomore Chris O'Hare who broke the school record in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:24.20. Sophomore Brian Tabb won the 800-meter run in 1:54.74, and Sam Masters captured the mile run with a time of 4:20.80. Senior Paula Whiting won the 1,000 meters in 2:51.67, and senior Jennifer Mace won the 600-yard run in 1:23.82.)
