TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa football team held UAB scoreless in the second half and pulled away for a 37-20 win Saturday night in front of a crowd of 21,494 at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

The Golden Hurricane (3-3, 2-0 C-USA) overcame four turnovers and outscored UAB (0-6, 0-3 C-USA) 13-0, and held the Blazers to just 123 total yards in the second half.

TU totaled 559 yards of offense in the ballgame, including 341 passing from quarterback G.J. Kinne on 31-43 passing. Kinne tossed three touchdowns, including two to senior tight end Clay Sears and one to junior H-back Willie Carter. Carter finished with eight catches for 85 yards.

Sears had his first multi-touchdown game of his career with two scoring receptions. It was also his first 100-yard receiving game, as he finished with a career-high nine catches for 105 yards.

Ja'Terian Douglas led the TU ground attack with 137 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. The Hurricane ran for 218 yards in the contest.

Curnelius Arnick, who ranks fourth in the nation in tackles, totaled 10 in the game, while Alan Dock added nine tackles.

Tulsa kicked a pair of field goals in the third quarter to extend its halftime lead to 30-20. Fitzpatrick put a 44-yard kick through the uprights to cap a 12-play 57-yard drive, and a 22-yarder that came at the end of an 11-play 55-yard drive.

Ja'Terian Douglas raced 47 yards to the end zone to push Tulsa's advantage to 37-20 with 12:39 left in the game, and proved to be the final points of the night.

Later in the quarter, Lowell Rose stepped in front of an Ellis pass and returned his first career pick 41 yards to the UAB 17 yard line. TU reached the UAB two yard line on a 13-yard run by Douglas, but a fumble gave the Blazers the ball inside their own five.

UAB drove down to the TU 16 yard line, but Dexter McCoil intercepted Ellis in the end zone, giving the Hurricane possession with 2:46 left in the game. Tulsa then ran out the clock to close out the victory.

In his first start since the first game of the season against Oklahoma, Rose picked up his first career interception, and tallied a sack and three pass breakups to go with three tackles.

Senior Kevin Fitzpatrick, with 13 points in the game, moved into eighth place on Tulsa's all-time scoring chart. He passed Charles Clay and Tarrion Adams in the game, and has 242 points in his career.

UAB punted on its first possession of the ballgame, and Tulsa reached the endzone in eight plays to take a 7-0 lead. Kinne found tight end Clay Sears wide open down the middle for an 18-yard touchdown pass. The play capped a 64-yard drive.

UAB went three-and-out on its next two possessions, and the Golden Hurricane added on a 30-yard field goal by Fitzpatrick to extend its lead to 10-0.

The Blazers scored its first touchdown of the game on a 66-yard pass from Bryan Ellis to Jamarcus Nelson, making the score 10-7, TU.

The Hurricane gave the ball back to the Blazers when Kinne's pass intended for Carter bounced up in the air and was intercepted by UAB's Marvi Burdette. UAB then drove 55 yards and took a 14-10 lead on a 45-yard pass from Ellis to Nelson.

Tulsa kept UAB out of the end zone following a fumble, but the Blazers added to their lead with a 20-yard field goal by Long, making the score 17-10, UAB.

The Golden Hurricane took the ensuing possession, and drove 72 yards to the endzone, knotting the score at 17 apiece. Carter caught a 15-yard pass from Kinne to cap the nine-play drive. The scoring march was kept a live by a 16-yard completion from Kinne to Sears on fourth-and-10 from the UAB 35 yard line.

After the TU defense forced a punt, Kinne hit Jordan James for a 68-yard completion that took the Hurricane down to the UAB 12 yard line, and set up a 12-yard touchdown pass from Kinne to Sears, giving TU a 24-17 lead just before halftime. The 80-yard drive lasted just 23 seconds.

UAB added a 49-yard field goal with no time left to make the score, 24-20, in favor of TU.

The Golden Hurricane hits the road next week as it travels to Houston to play the Rice Owls at 6 p.m. on Fox Sports Net.
