CONFERENCE USA MEDIA DAY
Conference USA Media Day is underway at the Memphis Hilton in Memphis, Tennessee . . . Head Coach Bill Blankenship and G.J. Kinne arrived in Memphis Sunday morning and began interviews at 1 pm . . . Kinne hit a home run with his knowledge of college football when his first question of the day was asked -- What do you know about Davey O'Brien? Kinne was named to the Davey O'Brien Watch List earlier this summer. G.J.'s answer - Davey O'Brien was a quarterback at TCU in 1935-37 and was born in Dallas, Texas. Needless to say, the interviewer from CSS was impressed . . . Tulsa's World columnist Dave Sittler and TU beat writer Eric Bailey represent the Tulsa media in Memphis . . . six quarterbacks represented their teams at C-USA media day on Sunday -- East Carolina's Dominique Davis, Houston's Case Keenum, Austin Davis of Southern Miss, Tulane's Ryan Griffin, UAB's Bryan Ellis, joind Tulsa's G.J. Kinne in Memphis.
COACHES SPEND TIME IN OKLAHOMA CITY WITH MEDIA
On Saturday night, Head Coach Bill Blankenship and assistant coaches Scott Downing, Brent Guy, Denver Johnson, Van Malone and Greg Peterson met media in Oklahoma City for a dinner at Bellini's Ristorante, thanks to former TU alumnus and football player Brad Grow . . . spouses of both the coaches and media also enjoyed a night out.
ESPN FEATURING KINNE
ESPN visited campus on Thursday and Friday for a feature on G.J. Kinne . . . the feature will air on E:60 and possibly on Game Day . . . air time is not exactly known at this moment . . . the focus of the story will be on Kinne and the shooting of his father, Gary Joe, when G.J. was entering his junior season at Canton High School . . . Kinne went through three changes of clothes on Thursday, from 5-8 pm, as ESPN videographed Kinne at H.A. Chapman Stadium . . . on Friday morning Lisa Salters conducted interviews with G.J. and his father, beginning at 10 am . . . ESPN traveled to the Dallas area to interview G.J.'s mother and best friend, while also visiting Canton High School.
REPORTING DATES
Tulsa newcomers will report to camp on Tuesday, August 2 . . . varsity reports on Wednesday, August 3 . . . first practice will be on Thursday, August 4, from 7:30-9:30 am, followed by Media Day from 11-3:30 pm . . . Tulsa will take its team photo at approximately 2:30 pm on Thursday.
