Softball Drops Season Opener at ULL, 19-4

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Tulsa softball team fell at Louisiana-Lafayette, 19-4 in the season-opener at the 26th Annual Louisiana Classics at Lamson Park.
Junior shortstop Samantha Cobb hit a two-run home run for the Golden Hurricane (0-1), which had two hits in the game. Sophomore Aimee Creger (0-1) took the loss for TU. Cristi Orgeron went 4-for-5 with six RBI and hit one of three home runs for ULL (2-0).
The Ragin' Cajuns scored four runs in the top of the first inning, and added two runs in the second and one more in the third, taking a 7-0 lead before the Hurricane got on the board. Sophomore third baseman Jill Barrett drew a one-out walk and Cobb followed with a blast to left field to make the score 7-2. It was Cobb's first homer of the season and 22nd of her career.
Tulsa held ULL scoreless in the fourth, and added two more runs in the bottom of the frame to close the gap to 7-4. Junior catcher Cassidy Bowen drew a two-out walk and sophomore left fielder Cierra Hughes singled to left field. Both runners scored when junior center fielder Caitlin Everett reached on an error by the center fielder.
ULL added one more run in the fifth inning and 11 runs in the sixth inning.
Creger allowed eight earned runs, seven hits, four walks and two strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Sophomore Kalynn Schrock relieved in the sixth inning for TU, and allowed 11 runs on 11 hits.
