GREENVILLE, N.C. — Down to its final out, Tulsa rallied back to advance in the American Conference Championships with a 2-1 win over UAB on Wednesday at Joyner Family Softball Stadium. Faith Russell delivered the winning hit with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh inning.
Maura Moore pitched a complete game, striking out six batters over 7.0 innings while allowing just one hit. Preslee Ray collected two hits and scored a run, while Aliya Scarborough added two hits and reached base on a hit-by-pitch, helping to drive the team's offensive efforts.
The game remained scoreless through the first four innings, marked by strong pitching and defense from both teams. UAB broke the deadlock in the fifth inning when Antonia Henderson hit a solo home run to deep left field, putting UAB up 1–0.
Tulsa had its chances with runners in scoring position in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but couldn't push a run across.
Entering the seventh inning with a one-run deficit, Tulsa mounted a comeback. Ray led off with a single to shallow right field. Following a sacrifice bunt by Madison Garcia, Ray advanced to second. Walks to Claira Skaggs and Emma Vickrey loaded the bases with two outs. Russell then delivered the game-winning hit with a single to center field, driving in Ray and Skaggs to secure the victory.
Tulsa returns to action later today against Charlotte at 3 p.m. CT in the second round of the American Conference Championships.
