Martin, O'Hare Advance at NCAA Preliminary Round

AUSTIN, Texas - Senior Bill Martin and junior Chris O'Hareboth advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA West Preliminary Thursday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
O'Hare won his heat and posted the third-best qualifying time of 3:51.17. Martin finished seventh in his heat with a mark of 3:51.35, and he was the last of 24 runners to advance. Martin entered the regional event with the 30th-best time, and he improved six positions to move into the next round.
The quarterfinals will be contested in Austin at 6:30 p.m. May 26. The top 12 competitors from those two heats will all advance to the NCAA Championships June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa. The top five from each heat automatically qualify, with the next two fastest times also receiving bids.
Senior Tom Marshall also ran in Martin's heat, but he failed to qualify with a 41st-place time of 4:02.60.
Junior Sarah Macphersonentered the women's 1,500 with the 38th best mark, and she improved three spots to finish 35th in 4:35.42.
Junior Julian Frazierran in the 400m dash prelims, and he placed 36th in 47.88.
Senior Carl Stonesis next up for Tulsa at the preliminary event. He will compete in the 3,000m Steeplechase at 8:50 p.m. May 25.
