Week of January 1-7
Freshmen Ashley Clark (Women's Basketball) has a 3.68 GPA in business. Clark, a native of Midwest City, Oklahoma, scored 11 points as Tulsa defeated Langston 97-35, on Thursday night. Clark was one of six players to reach double-digits in scoring, as the 97 points scored were just shy of the school record of 98. Clark also tallied six rebounds, a career-high five steals and three assists in the triumph.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (9-6, 1-0 C-USA)
Took Down Buffalo 63-57 (Freshman James Woodard scored seven of his game-high 22 points in the final three minutes as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane pulled away from the University of Buffalo for a 63-57 victory last Wednesday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Woodard also led Tulsa with eight rebounds, while Scottie Haralson had a team-high four assists. Pat Swilling added 11 points and Haralson had 10 points. The Hurricane scored nine straight points, seven by Woodard, to break a 51-51 tie and take a 60-51 lead over Buffalo with just 0:32 remaining in the game.)
Defeated SMU 48-47 (Pat Swilling, Jr., caught the ball in the corner and coolly knocked down his sixth three-pointer of the game with 3.8 seconds on the clock to push Tulsa past SMU, 48-47, in the Conference USA opener for both schools Sunday evening in Dallas, Texas. The Hurricane jumped out to a 34-17 lead heading into halftime thanks to 15 first half points by Swilling, and overcame a four-point deficit with 32 seconds remaining to defeat the Mustangs. TU held SMU to 34-percent shooting from the field and the Hurricane outrebounded the Mustangs 37-27. Scottie Haralson chipped in 10 points and tallied a team-high nine rebounds.)
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (5-8)
Won against Langston 97-35 (Six Tulsa players scored in double figures to lead the Golden Hurricane to a 97-35 win over Langston in the final non-conference game on Thursday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. TU's 97 points was just shy of the school record (98) set against East Central Oklahoma State in 1980. Taleya Mayberry led the Hurricane attack with 20 points, followed by Kelsee Grovey with 17, Loren McDaniel with 12, Ashley Clark and Mariah Turner with 11 points each, and Jasmine Vasquez added 10. Vasquez set a new personal scoring best, while Grovey tied her previous mark of 17, which she set against Illinois earlier this season.)
