Tulsa Cruises Past Illinois State

The No. 40 University of Tulsa men’s tennis team had a perfect start to its 2015 season after defeating the Illinois State Redbirds in both matches of the doubleheader, 4-0, 4-0, Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Golden Hurricane went a perfect 12-0 in duel play against the visiting Redbirds.
Doubles play kicked off TU’s season at 1 p.m., as Or Ram-Harel and Dylan McCloskey set the tone after winning a hard-fought doubles match against the duo of Jakub Eisner and Rolando Torrellas, 7-5, at the No. 1 position.
In the No. 2 doubles match, Matthew Kirby and Mitchell Pritchard beat Muddappa Appanervanda and Rodrigo Oliveira, 6-4. In the final doubles match, Alejandro Espejo and Carlos Bautista took care of Urh Kraninc and Andreas Boers, 6-2.
In singles play, Espejo cruised past Kraninc, 6-1, 6-2, while Ram-Harel topped Eisner, 6-0, 6-2, and McCloskey beat Jacob Wilson 6-2, 6-2, to round out singles play.
The numbers four, five and six matches were unfinished.
The second match saw more of the same.
TU’s doubles swept the competition, dropping just five total games in the three matches combined.
In singles play, Ram-Harel topped Kraninc, 6-0, 6-2, from the No. 2 position, while Kirby from the No. 3 position handily beat Wilson, 6-0, 6-1.
Pritchard rounded out the evening after topping Boers, 6-3, 6-4, from the No. 5 spot.
The Hurricane will now have a tough showdown at 6:00 p.m., Friday evening at the Case Center, where they will take on the No. 9 Texas Longhorns.
