Tulsa to Face SMU in American Athletic Conference Championship Semifinals on Friday

The Tulsa men's soccer team will face top-seed and seventh-ranked SMU on Friday, November 13 in the American Athletic Conference Championship semifinal, which is set for 3:30 pm Central at Corbett Soccer Stadium on the USF campus in Tampa, Fla. The Golden Hurricane, which has a 7-6-4 overall record, tied UCF, 2-2, and advanced to the semifinals on penalty kicks (4-2) last week in quarterfinal play.

TU has faced six top-25 opponents, including three in the top-five, so far this season. The Golden Hurricane tied #2 Virginia (1-1, 2OT), and fell to #1 Creighton (1-0), #4 North Carolina (2-1), #18 SMU (3-2), #18 USF (2-1) and #22 Saint Louis (1-0, 2OT).

Tulsa has tallied 29 goals this season from 13 different players, including a team-best six scores from Juan Sanchez, while Geoffrey Dee has four goals, and Bradley Bourgeois and Michael Mitrik both have three scores. TU also has 29 assists from 12 players, including four each from Dee, Ray Saari and Zach Jackson.

Jake McGuire has played the majority of minutes in goal, while Brandon Hanat and Marcel Da Silva have each played in two games. The trio have combined for 67 saves and three shutouts for a .753 saves percentage, and allowed 22 goals for a 1.21 goals-against average.

SMU has a 13-2-3 overall record and tallied a 7-0-1 record in league play. Mauro Cichero has a team-best 10 goals, while Jared Rice has 10 assists. Michael Nelson has played every minute in goal, picked up 66 saves and seven shutouts for a .786 saves percentage, and allowed 18 goals for a 1.0 GAA.

During the regular season, SMU captured a 1-0 win over TU in Tulsa, and a 3-2 victory in Dallas.

The winner of this game will face the winner of #2 seed USF vs. #3 seed UConn on Sunday, November 15 beginning at 1:00 pm Central. The American Championship game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
