MANSFIELD, Conn—
Junior outside hitter Erica Bohannon registered 16 kills, while junior libero Brooke Berryhill picked up 23 digs leading The University of Tulsa volleyball team to an American Athletic Conference road win over UConn, 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20), Sunday afternoon at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
 
The Golden Hurricane (14-16, 9-9 American) had a .208 hitting percentage and 57 kills and 25 errors on 154 attempts, while limiting the Huskies (16-14, 10-9 American) to a .136 hitting percentage (45-24-154). TU won the defensive battle recording 47 digs while UConn had 64, and they won in the total points picking up 70 while holding UConn to 53.
 
In the initial frame, Tulsa trailed early at 7-2 and at the midway point they were down 13-9. The Huskies went on to score four out of five points to go up 17-10 forcing a TU timeout. The Hurricane cut the score to five late in the set at 23-18 and 24-19, followed by three straight Tulsa points to make cut the lead to two at 24-22. UConn went on to pick up a kill to end the set 25-22 taking a 1-0 match lead.
 
The second stanza was a deadlock early with tying scores at 7-7 and 11-11, before Tulsa scored three straight points to go up 14-11. The Hurricane extended its lead to six at 19-13, and it went on to take an eight point lead late in the set at 24-16. TU allowed another UConn point, before senior Paige Panfil delivered a kill to end the set 25-17 tying the match score at 1-1 going into intermission. Tulsa had a .250 hitting percentage in the set, while limiting the Huskies to a .000 hitting percentage.
 
In the third frame, both teams battled early with tying scores at 6-6 and 12-12, before the Hurricane went on to score six out of eight points to take a 18-14 lead. TU extended the lead to six at 22-16, and they went on to win the set 25-19 taking a 2-1 match lead. The Hurricane had a .300 hitting percentage in the set, while the Huskies had a .179 hitting percentage.
 
In the final stanza, the score was tied early at 6-6 and 12-12 before the Tulsa went on to take a three point lead at 18-15 forcing a UConn timeout. The Hurricane maintained the three point lead late in the set at 22-19, and it went on to score three out of four points to win the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.
 
The Hurricane returns to the Donald W. Reynolds Center to take on Central Florida at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, and it concludes the 2015 regular season against South Florida at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27.
