Tulsa Volleyball Sweeps USF to Conclude Season

TULSA, Okla. —
Junior outside hitters Erica Bohannon and Rebecca Reeve tallied 14 and 13 kills, respectively, to lead The University of Tulsa to an American Athletic Conference win over USF, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-21), Friday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
 
The Golden Hurricane (15-17, 10-10 American) had a .316 hitting percentage and 49 kills and 12 errors on just 117 attempts, while limiting the Bulls (11-21, 8-12 American) to a .169 hitting percentage (37-16-124). TU won the defensive battle picking up 57 digs while holding USF to 49. The Hurricane won in the assist category picking up 45 assists while limiting the Bulls to 36.
 
In the initial frame, both teams battled early with tying scores at 7-7, 8-8, and 10-10. The score was tied at the midway point 15-15, before the Hurricane took a two point lead at 17-15. The Hurricane went on to extend the lead to four points at 21-17, and it went on to score four of the five final points to win the set 25-18. Bohannon registered seven kills in the set, while junior libero Brooke Berryhill picked up seven digs.
 
In the second stanza, Tulsa took an early four point lead at 10-6, before they extended the lead to six points by the midway point at 15-9. USF fought back to score four out of five points to bring the score within three at 16-13. TU then extended its lead to six at 20-14, and they maintained that lead late with the score at 23-17. Senior middle blocker Ashley Hooper delivered a kill up the middle that ended the set 25-18 giving Tulsa a 2-0 match advantage going into intermission.
 
In the final frame, there were five tying scores within the first ten points and the last time it was tied was at 10-10. Tulsa scored four straight points to take a 14-10 lead forcing a USF timeout. The Hurricane maintained the four point lead late in the set with the score at 20-16, before the Bulls fought back to bring the score within two at 22-20. TU went on to score three out of the final four points to win the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
