Keyarris Garrett Named Semifinalist for Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award

The University of Tulsa senior receiver Keyarris Garrett was named one of 16 semifinalists today for the 2015 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, it was announced by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce. This is the third year of the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, which recognizes the top offensive player in the Football Bowl Subdivision from the state of Texas.
The 6'4" Garrett, from Daingerfield High School in Daingerfield, Texas, leads the nation in receiving yards with 1,451 yards and seven touchdowns on 88 receptions, and is second nationally for receiving yards per game with 120.9 yards.
Garrett has had six 100+ receiving games this year, including two games with over 200 yards. He had a career-best 268 yards and three TDs on 14 receptions against #16 Navy, and totaled 216 yards and one TD on 10 catches in Tulsa's 45-34 win over Tulane last Friday to make the Golden Hurricane bowl eligible. Garrett also had 189 yards receiving and one touchdown on 14 receptions against #16 Oklahoma earlier in the season.
To be eligible for the award the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: (1) Born in Texas; (2) Graduated from a Texas high school; or (3) played at a Texas-based junior college of four-year college.
In addition to excelling on the field, candidates must also exhibit "the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals."
The 16 semifinalists will get down to 5 finalists in December. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards Banquet scheduled for January 13, 2016.
